Dreads • Dreadlocks • Locks - ROOTS CULTURE

This is a small multimedia piece I put together of the first few documentaries that I've gathered for my Dreadlocks Project that I've started. I hope to continue my project and put together a book and dvd of my completed work in the future.

Enjoy!

STIRLING GROUNDHOG FEST '13

The Stirling, Ont. Groundhog Fest was held February 1, 2, 3. There were several events to attend over the weekend such as dinner at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 228, St. Paul’s AOTS breakfast, story time for kids, Ken Kovach & Heartland Country dance, St. Andrew’s fish fry, pond hockey tournament, meat roll, chili fest, and public skating.

The men’s AOTS club breakfast has participated in the groundhog fest for about 30 years. Members from other churches volunteer to help out with the breakfast serving coffee, tea, orange juice, apple juice, pancakes, sausage and real maple syrup. The chili contest held by the Community Pentecostal Church is in their first year of participating in the fest and had four different chilies to taste and vote for. The pond hockey tournament has been running for four years by the Lions Club every year annually and there are competitive and recreational divisions so everyone can participate and have fun.

GENDERED

I met Devon while on an assignment for school at a LGBT and questioning youth group. She's in the beginning stages of her transgendered transformation.

MANDY BUJOLD

Mandy Bujold is one of Canada's hopefuls for the 2012 London Olympic games. I had the opportunity to do a multimedia/multiple photo story on her for two of my Photojournalism classes at Loyalist College. Mandy, also known as "Mighty Mandy," is a Kitchener-Waterloo resident, she trains really hard and is a wonderful person to be around. I wish her the best at the Olympics, and I'm sure she'll do great to represent Canada!
